Patients undergoing treatment at the Covid19 facility in Sector 4 are extremely unhappy over the quality of food, water and other facilities at the center. The patients alleged that the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is neglecting the pleas made by them.

Patients undergoing treatment at the isolation center in Moshi decided to contact the media, as their pleas went unheard. When no action was taken against their complaints made to the doctors and the staff of the hospital, the patients wrote an application, demanding good quality of food and regular water supply. A police personnel from Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate,  39 year old Police Naik, Abhijeet Chavan deployed at Nigdi Police station, who is admitted to the COVID19 isolation center for the last two days, said, “Ever since I have come here, I have been given poor quality of food. Along with me, other patients, too, are suffering. We even requested them to discharge as it has become tough to stay here amid the shortage of water supply. How can we recover when we are given the food that is tasteless and of poor quality? In the entire day, we are given just two bottles of water to drink.”

A copy of the written complaint made to the in-charge of the center was also handed over to Pune Pulse, which was signed by 12-13 patients, who had requested for proper food and water supply.

Abhijeet Chavan also mentioned that his seventy years old mother too is diagnosed with COVID19 and is isolated alone at their home. He has requested the doctors to discharge him as he will be able to take care of his mother by isolating themselves, but his request was not approved.

Another patient, Subhash Bapurao Tayade, complained about the breakfast and water supply. He said, “We are given breakfast that is tasteless and cheap in quality. It has become difficult to manage our health after irregularity in water supply and poor food quality. We don’t demand luxury service, but we should at least be given proper food when we are away from our home.”

Third patient who complained, on request of anonymity said, “I am tired of complaining because our voices go unheard. How long shall we remain deprived of our basic rights in this isolation center? Even the doctors here treat us as if we have committed a crime by being COVID19 positive.”

Upon reaching out to the mayor of the city, Usha Dhore, she said, “I didn’t know about this situation. However, I will take a meeting with the commissioner and take immediate action and resolve their problem.”

When raised the issue of the patients suffering from low quality food and irregular water supply, PCMC Commissioner Shravan Hardikar assured that strict action shall be taken and the authorities shall look into the problems faced by the patients resolve them at the earliest.

Dr. Kiran Borade, in-charge of the medical facility of the COVID center he said, “These people who are complaining are not educated. They just want to go back home and start doing their business. However, I am not responsible for the quality of food here. I agree that the water pump in the girls hostel has been creating water issues, but it will be resolved once the corporation takes a note of it and PCMC is solely responsible for food and other facilities.”
