Heavy rains lash Pune city, fringe areas affected too

Pune city another spate of continuous rainfall on October 14, 2020. Several parts of the city went under water as it started to pour since the afternoon. Rainfall for a prolonged time caused water logging in many low lying areas as well as in the fringe areas of the city. This resulted in water accumulating in almost all areas of city ranging from Katraj, Bibvewadi, Sahakar nagar, Undri, Mohamadwadi, Sinhagad road, Dagdusheth Ganpati temple road, Taljai, Hadapsar, Viman Nagar, Chandan Nagar and other areas too.
Sanjay Gawade from the disaster management cell, Pune Municipal Corporation said, “The intensity of the rainfall that took place yesterday was less as compared to the last year. There were many incidents of water logging, wall collapse, tree felling and water entering into homes, basement parking lots of residential as well as commercial spaces in many low lying areas. There were a total of 100 calls including those made to the Fire Brigade. We are yet to ascertain the number of calls. ”
Gawade further shared the information regarding the rainfall that took place in different areas of Pune. He said, “PMC has installed 15 smart rain trcakers in 15 ward office areas of the city which enables us to record the rainfall.”

Yusuf Pathan, assistant commissioner, Wanawadi Ramtekdi Ward office said, “There have been cases of water logging, wall collapse but no casualties. PMC, MSEDCL jointly worked in several areas to avert severe short circuit incidents.”
Sahakar Nagar area received 245 mm of rain yesterday.

Prashant Ranpise, chief fire brigade officer, Pune Municipal Corporation said, “The fire brigade department yesterday received a total of 51 calls regarding water logging complaints and 4 of tree felling. These calls were from across the city and majorly dealt with the water accumulation issues.”
Nanda Lonkar, Corporator Prabhag 26 said, “Today along with Hadapsar MLA Chetan Tupe we visited many societies which saw water logging in their society premises as well as basement parking areas.”
