The Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL) has successfully implemented a smart traffic system across 30 signals in the city.

The Adaptive Traffic Management System (ATMS) has been installed to efficiently regulate traffic flow and minimize travel time. The decision to introduce the ATMS in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad was initially made in 2017 by the then CEO of PSCDCL, Kunal Kumar.

Although the original plan didn’t materialize, the PSCDCL proceeded with implementing the system in Pune City alone. After nearly six years, the first phase of the project, which covers 30 signals, has been completed. The PSCDCL has plans to complete the second and third phases, encompassing 46 and 49 signals respectively.

The PSCDCL has set a deadline to finish the entire project by the end of June. The estimated cost of the project is expected to be approximately Rs 171 crores.

The tender for the project was approved by civic officials in 2018, but due to the pandemic, the actual work began in November 2022. The system has already been operational on Karve Road, Swargate, and Fatima Nagar areas, effectively reducing traffic congestion in these locations.
