Pune: The legal metrology department has warned that strict action will be taken over the usage of non-certified weighing scales. DG Mahajan, Deputy Controller of Pune Legal Metrology Department said that all vendors in Pune city and district must verify the weighing scales used for the sale of various items in their shops every year. Weighing scales used without this verification are unauthorized and action will be taken against shopkeepers using them.
The accuracy of the weighing scales is verified by the Pune Legal Metrology Department of the state. Accordingly, all vendors are required by law to use weights, measures and weighing equipment in their shops with verified accuracy. All weights, measures, scales, and weighing instruments that do not undergo this verification are unauthorized.
The sale and use of such unauthorized weighing scales is prohibited. Therefore, an appeal has been made on behalf of the Legal Metrology Department not to use such unauthorized weights, measures and scales.
Because of this, even though all licensees with a valid license to sell weights and measures are required to sell valid weights, measures and weighing equipment, some traders use non-certified electronic devices imported from various countries (made in China) or brought from other states. Mahajan also said that it has come to the notice that some persons are illegally selling these weighing scales by putting their stickers on them.
