The state government has taken a significant step towards advancing the self-redevelopment of housing societies across the state, including the Pune-Mumbai region.

Introducing the One Window Scheme, the government aims to provide approval within a concise three-month window post the submission of self-redevelopment proposals from societies. To aid this initiative, the State Co-operative Bank has been designated as the primary agency responsible for extending loans to facilitate the societies’ self-redevelopment endeavors. This strategic move by the government is poised to accelerate the pace of society redevelopment.

During a housing society conference in Mumbai three months ago, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unveiled pivotal announcements aimed at expediting self-redevelopment projects statewide. These announcements have culminated in an official government decision from the housing department.

While conventional redevelopment often favors developers, self-redevelopment places society members at the forefront of benefits. Recognizing this, the state government, under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis in conjunction with the BJP-Shiv Sena coalition, initiated a self-development scheme on September 13, 2019. The subsequent Shinde-Fadnavis-Pawar administration has revisited and revised this scheme to streamline and expedite the self-redevelopment process.

In line with this, the government has committed to granting all necessary permits within a swift three-month period following the submission of self-redevelopment proposals through the one-window scheme. Functioning as a financial and advisory hub for self-development projects, the State Co-operative Bank assumes the role of the ‘nodal agency’.

Additionally, District Central Co-operative Banks will function as ‘nodal agencies’ at the district level. Recognizing proactive financial institutions, the government will also bestow ‘Nodal Agency’ status upon banks promoting self-redevelopment of societies.
