Thriller drama in ‘Ekti Natyo Shondhya’ to be played for Bengali Theatre Enthusiasts in Pune this year

The eminent Bengali actress, TV personality and social media star Kheyali Ghosh Dastidar will be present to bless the event
Pune, September 11th, 2023: Nandanik Sanstha is proud to present the 6th Edition of Ekti Natya Shondha (An Evening of Drama) on Saturday, September 16th, 2023 at Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Yuva Munch in Yerawada, Pune.
This year the genre selected by the Sanstha for their flagship event ‘Ekti Natya Shondha’ (ENS) is a thriller. The play that they are relentlessly rehearsing to stage is by the legend of Bengali theatre, Mr. Manoj Mitra. He is known for his acting, directing and writing.
His contribution to Bengali theatre is immense and needs to be celebrated time and again. This play is based on Manoj Mitra’s famous book called Pahari Biche (Mountain Scorpion).
The script has been developed by Nandanik Sanstha’s Charubrata Ray, to suit the duration and audiences.
This year Nandanik is going to have the honour of hosting the very well-known TV and theatre personality, Ms Kheyali Ghosh Dastidar as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour.
Ms Dastidar is a renowned Bengali actress and a social media star too. Kheyali’s association with theatre is deep rooted as she is the daughter of the famous couple Jocchan and Chandra Dastidar, producers and directors of the first ever Bengali serial called Tyaro Parbon.
Infact, Kheyali was also part of this milestone through her screen presence in the serial amongst other films and serials. She has recently also ventured into scriptwriting for theatre.
Elaborating on this year’s program we have Shanta Datta, Vice President and Cultural head, Nandanik Sanstha, “This year ENS will be staging a thriller or murder mystery as a genre and will be presenting Pahari Bicche, a novel by Manoj Mitra. The play will be staged in two halves within 90 minutes and a 15 minute interval. As theatre is real time, creating suspense on stage in a thriller is challenging. But, we are thoroughly enjoying the process and are very excited to be presenting something new and unique to our audiences. For this we are looking forward to the support and participation of the Bengali theatre enthusiasts in Pune.”
She further added, “We are also extremely happy to be able to host M/s Kheyali Ghosh Dastidar as our Chief Guest and Guest of Honour for this year’s ENS in Pune. We are looking forward to hearing and learning from her about her new and past experiences about Bengali theatre in West Bengal.”
The play that has been chosen this year is based in Darjeeling and is about a business man in the hoteling business who is nefarious by character. He marries a lady who has a twin sister and is involved in many criminal activities that leads him towards a murder. Is he a murderer or is being framed as one? And what eventually happens?
This will be revealed on September 16th at Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Yuva Munch in Yerawada, Pune.
