Liquor Ban During Ganeshotsav In Pune: Vendors Question Efficacy, Ganesh Mandals Demand Permanent Prohibition

All retail liquor licenses in Pune district will remain closed on September 19 and 28 in order to maintain peace and order during the Ganeshotsav period.

As per information, District Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh has ordered to close the license for consumption and sale of liquor on the route of the immersion procession and in the area where Ganpati immersion is held on the fifth and seventh day of Ganeshotsav till the end of immersion procession in Pune Municipal Corporation area on 29th September.

In order to maintain law and order in Pune district, under Rule 142 of the Maharashtra Liquor Prohibition Act, 1949, all licenses for retail sale of liquor (FL-2, FL-3, CL-3, FLBR-2, Form-E, Form-E-2 and T.D.-1) have been ordered to be closed.

Pune District, on September 19th and September 28th, until the end of the immersion procession on September 29th, all the liquor sales licenses on the route of the immersion procession in the Pune Municipal Corporation area, as well as the licenses in the areas where Ganesha immersion takes place on the fifth and seventh days of Ganeshotsav will not be issued.

Apart from this, where there is a public Ganpati Visarjan procession, the license for sale of liquor in all areas along the Visarjan procession route should be kept closed on the day of the immersion procession.

The order also states that strict action will be taken against the licensee who violates the order as per the provisions of the Maharashtra Liquor Prohibition Act, 1949 and the rules made thereunder.
