A meeting was held in this regard in Mumbai recently where representatives of the Central Election Commission participated.

As per the information, the polling stations will be established in 36 societies in Pune. It is worthy to note that such polling centres will be set up in a total of 150 societies in Pune, Thane, Mumbai and Mumbai suburbs.

Shrikant Deshpande, Additional Chief Secretary & Chief Electoral Officer of Maharashtra has stated that if an election polling station is provided in a residential society, all the voters will vote in their own society. Therefore, the percentage of voting will increase. These polling stations will be set up in Pune, Thane, Mumbai and Mumbai suburbs.

The Central Election Commission has started testing the feasibility of setting up polling stations in large societies and clusters of societies. Permission has been given to start polling stations in existing societies only. Therefore, apart from municipal schools, polling stations will also be established in societies. In this regard, the representatives of the Central Election Commission held a meeting in Mumbai two days ago.

Residential societies having 1,500 or more voters will be provided with polling stations in places like common halls, recreation halls and clubhouses available in their own society.
