Pune: The Dev Uthani Ekadashi also referred to as Prabodhini Ekadashi falls on the Ekadashi Tithi of the Shukla Paksha during the Kartik month. This year it will be celebrated on November 23.
On this day, Hindu devotees observe fast and worship Lord Vishnu seeking his blessings and love. Additionally, people celebrate the holy festival of Tulsi Vivah, which commemorates the marriage of Goddess Tulsi to the Shaligram form of Lord Vishnu.
In order to commemorate the festival, individuals are required to wake up early, take a bath, light a diya in their home temple and perform Lord Vishnu’s abhishek with Ganga Jal. They also offer flowers and tulsi leaves to Lord Vishnu, conduct an aarti, and offer bhog made from Sattvik items to Lord Vishnu.
Additionally, devotees worship Maa Lakshmi alongside Lord Vishnu on this auspicious day. As Tulsi Vivah also takes place on the same day, devotees should perform the necessary rituals and worship Maa Tulsi and Lord Shaligram as well.
It is important to remember certain guidelines for the Dev Uthani Ekadashi festival. The Ekadashi Parana must be conducted after sunrise on the day following the Ekadashi fast. On Dev Uthani Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu awakens from a four-month sleep, and Hindu devotees offer prayers and seek blessings. This day is considered the end of an inauspicious period and the resumption of all auspicious activities. Observing a fast on this day is believed to help people rid themselves of past bad karma and attain salvation (Moksha).
Additionally, devotees pray to Lord Vishnu for a place in his abode, Vaikunth Dham.
