PMC to privatize Kondhwa slaughterhouse for better management

Maharshtra State Government Serious About Pune Municipal Corporation Elections
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has begun the process of privatizing one of Pune’s biggest slaughterhouses, which is located in Kondhwa.
Speaking to Pune Pulse, Dr Sarika Funde, Veterinary Superintendent, PMC, said “In Kondhwa, there is a slaughterhouse. For several days, the PMC has been taking steps to privatize this slaughterhouse. The slaughterhouse was constructed in Kondhwa for an official space to slaughter animals. So, for better maintenance & upkeep of the slaughterhouse, the PMC is looking to outsource the slaughterhouse so that a private firm can maintain it. The tender for the same has been floated. The entire process from the bidding to the handing over of the slaughterhouse will take at least 1 months’ time.”
The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board gave the civic body permission to build an effluent treatment plant at the location in 2019 (MPCB). According to a senior official of the local government, the slaughterhouse is unable to operate at full capacity due to a lack of personnel and low facility revenue.
In addition, the administration charges Rs 280 per animal upon admission, which includes Rs 200 for veterinary care and Rs 80 for slaughter. Before the animal is killed, its health is examined.
