For a sporting event, large branches of 3 trees within a Hadapsar Housing Society area were illegally chopped off without the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) tree authority permission. After visiting the housing society, representatives from the PMC Hadapsar ward office announced that they would be sending the society a show-cause notice.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Vilas Dhoble, Tree Officer, PMC Hadapsar-Mundhwa Ward Office said, “After receiving information about the tree pruning incident on Friday (January 5) we inspected the situation in Vardhaman Township, Sasane Nagar, Hadapsar. Large branches of 3 trees of types like Umbar, Caroline etc were chopped off without the PMC’s permission. Hence, a detailed report about this has been prepared & a show-cause notice has been issued to the builder of the society. Further relevant action is being taken regarding this.”

As per information, the 3 trees were pruned allegedly for a cricket competition to be held on the Vardhaman Township Society Campus in Hadapsar. According to PMC officials, individuals found guilty of illegal tree cutting, under the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975, face a fine of ₹10,000 and a jail sentence of one to three months.
