Indian Aviation Market Expansion : Akasa Air, IndiGo, and Air India orders for 1120 planes !
Akasa Air, a relatively new entrant in the aviation industry, has placed an order for 150 Boeing 737 Max planes as part of its ambitious expansion plans.
Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia termed the order as a ‘landmark’ development.
As per information, in 2023, Air India and IndiGo ordered 970 planes from Boeing and Airbus. Tata Group-Owned Air India ordered 470 planes, while Indigo ordered 500 narrow-body planes. With this order, the combined aircraft orders by three Indian carriers, including Akasa Air, in less than a year total of 1,120 planes. Additionally, domestic carriers are expected to receive over 1,600 planes in the coming years, with the fleet size of Indian airlines projected to reach 1,500 to 2,000 by 2030.
This move comes less than two years after the airline’s establishment and follows a previous order of 72 Boeing 737 Max aircraft in 2021. The latest order includes a mix of 737 Max 10 and 737 Max 8-200 jets, contributing to Akasa Air’s vision of becoming a prominent global airline by the end of the decade.
These additions are expected to support Akasa Air’s operations and expansion efforts both domestically and internationally. The order secures a consistent delivery stream through 2032.
This underscores the rapid expansion and competitiveness within India’s civil aviation market.
