Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link to open on February 20 marking major step in connecting Kashmir

The Indian Railways is set to launch a significant section of the ambitious Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project on February 20, 2024. The 48.1-km Banihal-Khari-Sumber-Sangaldan section promises to bring Kashmir closer to the national rail network and improve connectivity within the region.

This marks a major step towards connecting Kashmir to the national rail network and improving regional connectivity. Prime Minister Modi is expected to virtually flag off the inaugural train.
Spanning challenging Himalayan terrain, the USBRL project aims to create an all-weather, comfortable, and affordable transportation system.
This newly opened section boasts impressive features like the country’s longest transportation tunnel and over 90% tunnelled route for year-round operation. Advanced safety measures and full electrification pave the way for modern trains.
