On Thursday, February 15, 2024, Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, in collaboration with Aalto University, Finland, and The School of Design, RMIT, Melbourne, launched BITS Design School in Mumbai, which has been built over an area of 63 acres. 
Admissions for Design School will begin on February 26, 2024. 

BITS Design School will be a four-year course of Bachelors in Design (Honours), which will be followed by a masters degree programmeme and a faculty development programmeme for Design students in these two years of masters. 

Five special streams will be offered specialisation in the 2nd year of the programme; these streams will include physical product design, digital product design (UI/UX), human-centred design, experience design, and visual design. 

According to Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chancellor, BITS Pilani, “Designing is increasingly pivotal in addressing the complexities of the new age. From manufacturing to services and retail to technology, design is shaping the future of how businesses approach problem-solving and innovation. BITS Design School will reimagine design education with a bold transdisciplinary, competency-based approach and embrace avenues where design can positively impact people, businesses, and the world. BITS Pilani, with its rich legacy of academic excellence and trans-disciplinary thinking, is uniquely positioned to do this. And, in this process, we will nurture a new generation of leaders who will use design to create value and solve problems for a better world.” 


The students will have international visiting faculties and marquee Indian faculties from the top design schools in the world.
