Fierce fire breaks out at firecracker warehouse; Haldiram's products also burnt, estimated loss of around ten lakhs
Dhule: 21st May – A devastating fire erupted at a government-subsidized warehouse on Malegaon Road, approximately eight kilometers south of Dhule city, on Tuesday, May 21. The warehouse, which stored firecrackers and Haldiram’s products, suffered extensive damage, with initial estimates indicating a loss of around ten lakhs.
The warehouse, set up by local businessmen taking advantage of government subsidies, was divided into two sections. One part contained firecrackers managed by Yogesh Brahmankar, and the other housed various Haldiram products kept by Sachin Sharma from Nandurbar through Sham Pushpa Agency.
Cause and spread of the fire
The incident occurred around 11 AM, reportedly due to a short circuit in the firecracker section of the warehouse. The intense heat, with temperatures soaring to 44.5 degrees Celsius, likely exacerbated the situation. The fire quickly spread from the firecracker section to the area storing Haldiram’s products, causing significant destruction.
Emergency response teams acted promptly to control the blaze:
Four fire engines from the Laling toll booth were dispatched to the scene. Three fire brigades from the municipal corporation also joined the efforts to extinguish the fire. The Mohadi Police Station team played a crucial role in managing the situation and ensuring public safety.
Extent of damage
The fire resulted in the total destruction of goods worth approximately one million rupees from both sections of the warehouse. The significant loss highlights the vulnerability of storing highly flammable materials like firecrackers alongside other commercial products without adequate safety measures.
