Passengers demand solutions as long-distance trains from Pune face delays upto 20 hours
Passengers travelling from Pune railway station to various parts of the country are increasingly frustrated as long-distance trains are facing significant delays, sometimes up to 20 hours. Over the past few weeks, several trains departing from or passing through Pune railway station have been delayed, causing passengers to wait for nearly an entire day at the station.
Travellers are particularly annoyed by the last-minute notifications of these delays. One passenger recounted their experience: “Yesterday while travelling from Pune railway station, train number 20821 Pune to Santragachi Humsafar Express was delayed by over 14 hours. Is the railway trying to sabotage the newly formed Modi government?” The same train had previously been delayed by over 26 hours on June 10, forcing many passengers to wait at the station.
Another disgruntled passenger travelling on June 10 said, “Train number 01432 is such a pathetic train; it was running approximately 19 hours late. I don’t understand what the railway ministry is doing. We need some action against this as passengers are not fools…”
On Wednesday, the Pune railway division posted an update on its official ‘X’ handle, stating, “Train number 05609 HDP-GHY SF Special leaving Hadapsar at 10 am on June 13, 2024, is rescheduled to leave at 8.45 pm on June 13, 2024, due to the late running of the incoming pairing rake. Inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.”
This issue has not been isolated. Several other long-distance trains, such as the Pune-Gorakhpur Express and Pune Humsafar Express, have also faced significant delays in recent weeks. Passengers have been vocal in demanding a permanent solution to this persistent problem.
Pune railway division spokesperson explained, “The trains coming from other railway zones are arriving late, which impacts the trains departing from Pune railway station. If there are trains delayed from the Pune division, it is already conveyed to the passengers.” Despite these explanations, passengers continue to demand more reliable and timely services.
