14 July, 2026: Ganesh Chaturthi, one of India’s most cherished Hindu festivals, will be celebrated on Monday, September 14, 2026, marking the beginning of the 10-day Ganeshotsav. The festival honours Lord Ganesha, the deity associated with wisdom, prosperity and new beginnings. During this period, devotees install Ganesh idols at homes and public pandals, offer prayers and participate in devotional and cultural programmes.
According to the Hindu Panchang, the Chaturthi Tithi will commence at 7:06 am on September 14 and conclude at 7:44 am on September 15. Since the festival is observed based on the Udaya Tithi, Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on September 14 this year.
The most auspicious time for Ganesh Sthapana and Madhyahna Puja will be from approximately 11:09 am to 1:38 pm. Devotees are encouraged to perform the idol installation and worship during this period, which is considered highly favourable according to Hindu traditions.
Astrologically, Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 is expected to coincide with several auspicious yogas, making the day especially significant for worship, prayers and seeking blessings for success and well-being.
The celebrations will continue for ten days before concluding with Ganesh Visarjan on Anant Chaturdashi, which falls on Friday, September 25, 2026. On this day, devotees immerse Lord Ganesha’s idols in water bodies with chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya”, symbolising the deity’s return while expressing hope for his arrival again next year.
Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with great enthusiasm across India, particularly in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Goa. Homes and public pandals are beautifully decorated, traditional sweets such as modaks are prepared, and communities come together to celebrate the festival through prayers, music and cultural events.
