Goods Train Collides with Kanchenjunga Express in West Bengal, Rescue Operations Underway

A major train accident occurred in Rangapani, West Bengal on Monday, where the Agartala-Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express collided with a goods train near New Jalpaiguri station. 

The incident took place between Rangapani and Chatterhat stations shortly after the express train departed from New Jalpaiguri.

“Shocked to learn, just now, about a tragic train accident, in the Phansidewa area of Darjeeling district. While details are awaited, Kanchenjunga Express has reportedly been hit by a goods train. DM, SP, doctors, ambulances and disaster teams have been rushed to the site for rescue, recovery, medical assistance. Action on war-footing initiated.” expressed Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee.

Reports indicate that the collision occurred when a goods train rammed into the rear carriages of the Kanchanjungha Express. Panic ensued among passengers, with several reportedly injured as they hurriedly disembarked from the train. Rescue operations are currently underway at the site of the accident.

Due to the collision, all train movements on the affected line have been halted temporarily. Authorities are actively responding to the situation, and further updates are awaited regarding the status of the injured passengers and the restoration of train services in the region.
