Located near the famous Marleshwar Temple, this waterfall blends natural beauty, spirituality, and adventure in the Sahyadri ranges.

Location And Religious Significance

Dhareshwar Waterfall is situated near the Marleshwar Temple in Sangameshwar taluka of Ratnagiri district. The temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is nestled inside a cave and is surrounded by the lush Sahyadri mountain ranges. It is a major pilgrimage site that attracts devotees as well as nature lovers.

Marleshwar is located near Maral village, and the temple sits atop a hill, requiring visitors to climb around 400–450 steps to reach it. Journey And Accessibility

Reaching the waterfall involves a scenic route through the Konkan region. Visitors can travel up to the base area via road or rail connectivity, followed by a climb to reach the temple and nearby waterfall.

The pathway includes steps and a defined trail, making it accessible but moderately challenging, especially during the monsoon.

Natural Beauty And Waterfall Experience

Seven small waterfalls flow from the surrounding mountain ranges and merge to form the larger Dhareshwar waterfall. During the rainy season, the waterfall becomes especially powerful, creating a thick mist and a milky, frothy appearance that draws large crowds.

The area offers a calm and refreshing environment, with the sound of flowing water and chirping birds enhancing the overall experience. The greenery around the waterfall adds to its charm, making it a popular spot for both relaxation and photography.

Year-Round Attraction

The waterfall flows throughout the year, making it a destination that can be visited in any season. However, its intensity and beauty peak during the monsoon months.

Safety And Precautions

Despite its beauty, the waterfall can be dangerous during heavy rains. The strong flow of water creates a deep, lake-like formation at the base, and the exact depth is not clearly known.

Authorities have put up safety signs, and visitors are advised not to enter the water during the monsoon due to the risk involved.

The terrain can also become slippery, so caution is necessary while climbing or exploring the area.

Why It Stands Out

Dhareshwar Waterfall is not just a scenic spot but a unique blend of spirituality and nature. The combination of a cave temple, mountain views, and a powerful waterfall makes it one of the most distinctive travel experiences in the Konkan region.
