Aadhaar Rules Changing From November 2025: What You Need to Know
UIDAI to allow online updates for name, address, mobile number, and date of birth; biometric changes will still need centre visits
From November 2025, updating your Aadhaar card will become much simpler. According to a report in the Times of India, users will soon be able to update details such as name, address, mobile number, and date of birth online without visiting Aadhaar service centres. Only biometric updates—fingerprint and iris scans—will require a physical visit.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is preparing to roll out a new system that will pull verified data directly from other government databases, such as PAN, passport, ration card, driving licence, MNREGA records, birth certificates, and matriculation mark sheets. This will eliminate the need to upload documents separately for verification. UIDAI is also working to link electricity bill data to further simplify address proof.
A new mobile app is also expected, with QR code-based electronic Aadhaar. Instead of handing out photocopies, users will be able to share a digital or masked Aadhaar, reducing the risk of misuse and curbing Aadhaar-related fraud.
At present, only address changes can be done online, provided the Aadhaar is linked with a mobile number for OTP verification. All other updates—like correcting names, changing mobile numbers, or updating date of birth—require a trip to an Aadhaar centre. From November 2025, however, these will also move online.
The new system will allow:
- Correction of spelling mistakes in names
- Updating family member details (father’s or husband’s name)
- Address changes using another resident’s documents
- A possible increase in the limit for date of birth corrections
This move will especially benefit residents of remote areas, who often face difficulties accessing Aadhaar centres. According to UIDAI, the shift will save time, cut paperwork, and help reduce fraud.
For those who only need to update their address, UIDAI has also announced that this service will remain free on the myAadhaar portal until June 14, 2026, provided the mobile number is linked to Aadhaar.
With this digital revamp, what once required long queues and multiple documents will soon be possible in just a few clicks. From November 2025, updating Aadhaar will be easier, faster, and more secure than ever before.
