Aamhi Punekar to Install Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's Statue in Tokyo
Pune: A statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on horseback will soon be installed in Tokyo, the capital city of Japan. The foundation stone for this memorial will be laid by the end of January, and the statue’s inauguration is scheduled for the first week of March. Soil and water from 11 forts in Maharashtra will be brought for the foundation ceremony.
This initiative is being led by the “Aamhi Punekar” organization in collaboration with the All Japan Indian Federation and Edogawa India Culture Center, Tokyo, as informed by Hemant Jadhav, the president of the organization, on Thursday.
Eleven forts from Maharashtra, including Salher, Shivneri, Lohgad, Raigad, Suvarnadurg, Panhala, Vijaydurg, Sindhudurg, Khanderi, Rajgad, Pratapgad, along with the Gingee Fort in Tamil Nadu, have been proposed for UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites list. The main aim of this event is to promote the cultural significance of these forts. The statue will be crafted by Pune-based artisans Vipul and Viraj, sons of Vivek Khatavkar.
