Action Sought Against Fake Auto-Rickshaw Operators Accused Of Looting Passengers At Pune Railway Station
Pune | February 21, 2026: A formal memorandum was submitted on Thursday demanding strict action against fake auto-rickshaw operators allegedly looting passengers at Pune Railway Station. The representation was given on behalf of the BaghToye Rickshaw Association to Sangita Shinde Alphonso, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Lashkar Division, at Bund Garden Police Station.
The memorandum demanded protection for law-abiding auto-rickshaw drivers working at the official prepaid booth at Pune Railway Station, who operate strictly as per government rules and regulations. It also called for immediate action against gang-linked, fake rickshaw drivers who allegedly harass genuine drivers and exploit citizens by charging exorbitant and illegal fares.
A large group of auto-rickshaw drivers present at the time stated that around 20 to 25 criminally inclined fake rickshaw operators abuse and forcibly drive them away from the station premises. These individuals allegedly intimidate legitimate drivers and extort passengers by charging inflated fares.
The memorandum further claimed that these fake rickshaw operators openly boast about paying “hafta” (protection money) to local authorities.

The representation was signed by Dr. Keshav Nana Khirsagar, President of Maharashtra Kamgar Sabha, who urged the police administration to ensure passenger safety, protect honest auto drivers, and eliminate criminal elements operating around Pune Railway Station.
