Multi-agency effort rescues five boys lost on Mumbra hill

Thane, Maharashtra: What began as a harmless adventure for five boys from Dargah Galli in Azad Nagar in Thane, turned into a night of peril. When a group lost their way while hunting crabs on Mumbra hill. The group, comprising mostly 12-year-olds, including three siblings, ventured up the Khadi Machine area around 5 pm.

Their adventure took a dangerous turn when they lost their way. On realising they began shouting for help. Passersby attempted to locate them but were unsuccessful. The situation escalated when the fire brigade was alerted to their plight.

Chief Yasin Tadvi of the Thane Municipal Corporation’s Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) detailed the rescue operation: “Upon receiving the alert, a multi-agency search operation commenced, involving personnel from RDMC, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the fire brigade. The rescue operation spanned seven challenging hours, navigating through the hilly terrain amidst darkness and rain.”

“Finally, around 3 am, the boys were located and safely reunited with their relieved parents,” Tadvi confirmed.

The incident underscores the importance of caution during outdoor activities, especially in rugged terrain. It also highlights the crucial role of coordinated efforts among emergency response teams in ensuring swift and safe rescues.
