Advertising Icon Piyush Pandey Dies At 70, Leaves Lasting Legacy In Indian Advertising
New Delhi, October 24, 2025: Piyush Pandey, the legendary creative force behind some of India’s most iconic advertising campaigns, passed away on Thursday at the age of 70. Pandey, widely credited with giving Indian advertising its distinct voice, spent over four decades at Ogilvy India, shaping campaigns that resonated deeply with everyday life and culture.
Known for his signature moustache, booming laughter, and storytelling rooted in Indian ethos, Pandey transformed the way brands connected with people. His work with brands such as Asian Paints, Cadbury, Fevicol, and Hutch became part of the nation’s cultural memory, blending emotion, humor, and authenticity.
Pandey joined Ogilvy in 1982, after brief stints as a cricketer, tea taster, and construction worker, entering advertising at the age of 27. Over the years, he became a benchmark for creativity in the industry, inspiring generations of marketers and storytellers.
Tributes poured in from across India. Adani Group’s Pranav Adani said, “Devastated by the passing of my very dear friend Piyush Pandey… His ideas were the industry’s benchmarks and have inspired generations of storytellers.”
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also expressed her grief on X, calling Pandey “a titan and legend of Indian advertising” whose legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
