Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced that Ahmednagar has been officially renamed as AhilyaNagar. The move honours the legacy of Punyashlok Ahilya Devi. This decision has been approved by the State cabinet. 

The move aims to commemorate Ahilya Devi’s exemplary work and will inspire public representatives to follow her path.

Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister, expressed his satisfaction in fulfilling the wishes of Ahmednagar’s residents, the district, and the people of Maharashtra.

He emphasized the significance of carrying forward Ahilya Devi’s thoughts, work and memory to motivate generations. 

This decision has garnered immense support, with the Deputy Chief Minister acknowledging the crucial roles played by MLAs Sarveshree 

Sangram Jagtap, Dattamama Bharne, Ashutosh Kale and Nitin Pawar. Their efforts were instrumental in making this renaming a reality.

Expressing gratitude, Pawar congratulated all involved parties and the people of Maharashtra. He further thanked Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his colleagues in the state cabinet for their support and cooperation in the decision-making process. 

The renaming of Ahmednagar city to ‘AhilyaNagar’ signifies a tribute to Ahilya Devi’s extraordinary contributions and serves as a reminder of her legacy. 

This move is expected to inspire the future generations and uphold the values Ahilya Devi stood for and ensuring her impact continues to resonate throughout Maharashtra.
