Air India and IndiGo Suspend West Asia Flights As Iran Conflict Disrupts Airspace
February 28, 2026
Major Indian carriers Air India and IndiGo have suspended flights to and from West Asian destinations as escalating conflict between Iran, Israel and the United States continues to disrupt regional air routes.
The action follows coordinated strikes by the US and Israel against targets in Iran, prompting several countries—including Israel, Iran and Iraq—to close their airspace amid heightened security risks. The closures have severely impacted international flight paths, forcing airlines to reroute, delay or cancel services over conflict zones.
One of the immediate effects was felt on Air India’s Delhi–Tel Aviv flight AI139, which was diverted back to India due to the closure of Israeli airspace, according to airline officials. The decision was taken in the interest of passenger and crew safety.
Air India later announced a temporary suspension of all flights to and from destinations in the Middle East, saying it would continue to monitor the evolving situation and adjust its operations proactively. The airline also pledged support to affected passengers amid the disruption.
IndiGo, meanwhile, said it is closely monitoring developments in the region and actively assessing the security environment. The airline advised passengers to check their flight status before departure as the situation remains fluid.
The disruptions underline growing regional instability, with several countries imposing airspace restrictions for civilian safety as major carriers reassess routes through West Asia—a key transit corridor connecting Asia with Europe and beyond.
