The appointments come at a time when the airline industry is facing a shortage of pilots.

Air India Express Managing Director Alok Singh has stated that this is part of the airline’s plan to double its pilot pool from 400 to 800-900 in the next year. Additionally, one aircraft will be inducted every six days by the end of next year, with Air India, Vistara, AirAsia India, and Air India Express all set to deliver a new aircraft every six days from now until the end of 2024, bringing the minimum number of new aircraft to 70.

AirAsia India is currently undergoing a merger with Air India Express, a move towards creating a more affordable domestic airline. Recently, Air India Express unveiled its new brand identity. Additionally, the Tata Group is also working on integrating its airline business, which includes merging the 51:49 ratio between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines with AI India.
