Air Pollution Control system shut for over a year to function soon

Pune Municipal Corporation in a view to reduce air Pollution caused by the chimneys installed at the crematorium located in Prabhag 26 after cremation of bodies. The smoke emitting from the chimneys used to spread foul smell harming the health of the residents nearby.

One such air pollution control system was installed at the Kondhwa prabhag 26 crematorium a year ago but remained non functional for over a year.

The civic body at its several crematoriums has installed such systems. Areas such as Katraj, Kondhwa, Mundhwa.

When asked about the non functional air pollution control system, a PMC official said the systems were non functional due to technical issues. But they have been resolved and they are functioning.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s Rohan Gaikwad Prabhag President for NIBM informed Pune Pulse that these systems were installed about a year ago but not functioning. A total of Rs 1 crores were spent on setting up this system. Why did the PMC not keep the system in function. Why are the residents suffering due to the smoke emitting from the chimneys ?

He further said that I had raised the issue of the non functional systems only then they were put in operation.

When the matter was raised with the local Corporator Nanda Lonkar she said there were some technical issues which we have resolved now. Within a couple of days the system would be functioning.
