Unlocking a new chapter in visitor amenities, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has recently inaugurated cafes and restrooms in Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site nestled in Karnataka. Till now, Hampi was devoid of all the amenities. It was because the government wanted to preserve the sacredness of the ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire.

The eateries will be built at two locations near Vijaya Vittala temple premises, and one close to Ugra Narasimha Temple. As of now, the ASI team has a little store where tea, coffee, coconut and light snacks are available. However, very soon the team will offer a few rooms for temporary lodging for tourists.

Visitors to Hampi can anticipate clean beds, hygienic toilets and other essential services. The ASI buildings will be constructed in the distinctive Hampi architectural style, providing tourists with an immersive experience in the rich history of the region. Moreover, restaurants will be established with the goal of serving visitors hygienic and freshly prepared food.

This initiative marks the first time such facilities have been introduced in the Hampi circle, enhancing the overall experience for those exploring the captivating remnants of the Vijayanagara Empire.

Brimming with historical significance, this ancient city is a testament to the bygone era’s opulence, architectural brilliance, and spiritual fervour, all set against the breathtaking backdrop of colossal boulders, intricately carved temples and sprawling ruins.
