Assembly Elections Likely in November: CM Shinde Highlights Seat Distribution, Job Initiatives
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced that the upcoming assembly elections are likely to be held in the second week of November, potentially in two phases. He clarified this while speaking informally with journalists, stating that the formula for seat distribution within the Maha Yuti (grand alliance) will prioritize merit and winnability.
Shinde indicated that seat distribution will be finalized within the next 8 to 10 days, although the Election Commission has not yet announced the dates. The Maha Yuti government is receiving substantial support from women, with the “Chief Minister’s My Beloved Sister” scheme providing financial aid to 1.6 crore women. Beneficiaries of this scheme receive ₹1,500 per month, and the goal is to extend this benefit to 2.5 crore women.
The distribution of seats within the Maha Yuti is still undecided. The BJP is preparing to contest 140-150 seats, while Shinde’s Shiv Sena is seeking over 100 seats, citing their strike rate. The NCP, led by Ajit Pawar, plans to contest more than 60 seats. Following their strong performance in the Lok Sabha elections, the Maha Vikas Aghadi has expressed confidence in winning a larger number of seats in the forthcoming assembly elections.
Additionally, the Chief Minister has set a target of providing employment to 10 lakh youths through skill training programs. Currently, 1.5 lakh youths have been given jobs with stipends ranging from ₹6,000 to ₹10,000. The initiative aims to include 10 lakh youths overall.
