A thrilling Sunday morning turned into a nightmare for a family of four when their cab overturned on the Bandra-Worli Sea-Link after being hit by a BMW allegedly racing with a Mercedes.

The incident occurred at 10:30 am near pillar number 19 on the northbound stretch. Nisar Ahmed, 26, was driving the Maruti Wagon R cab with a couple, their 10-year-old son, and an elderly woman on board. Suddenly, the Mercedes and BMW came speeding from behind, colliding and causing the BMW to lose control.

The out-of-control BMW then hit the cab, sending it overturning after hitting railings and the divider. Miraculously, no one sustained serious injuries. “It was a narrow escape,” said a police officer.

Worli police swiftly responded, arresting Mercedes driver Shahbaz Khan, 31, and BMW driver Tariq Chaudhary, 29. They face charges of attempted culpable homicide and rash driving under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Both drivers are employed by private companies, with the vehicles registered in their employers’ names. “We will not tolerate reckless driving on our city’s roads,” said a senior police officer. “The arrested drivers will face consequences for their irresponsible actions.”

This incident highlights concerns about road safety and reckless driving in Mumbai. Citizens demand stricter measures to prevent such incidents.
