Ayodhya’s Deepotsav 2025: Over 26 Lakh Lamps Lit, Two Guinness World Records Set
The festival of lights in the birthplace of Lord Ram set new global benchmarks with 2.6 million oil lamps and mass volunteer participation.
In a dazzling display of light and devotion, more than 26 lakh (2.6 million) earthen oil lamps were lit along the banks of the Saryu River in Ayodhya during the ninth edition of Deepotsav on October 19 2025.

The event earned two new Guinness World Records:
- Largest display of oil lamps in one location.
- Most people lighting lamps (or performing diya rotations) simultaneously.)
State officials said the festival was held across 56 ghats of the Saryu river, with thousands of volunteers working around the clock to set up the lights, chants, and accompanying cultural programmes.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described the event as more than a spectacle. “These lamps not only reflect the dignity of Lord Shri Ram but also show the convergence of tradition and modernity,” he said.

As evening fell, the glowing array of lamps, rangoli patterns and illuminated ghats turned Ayodhya into a radiant vision. Observers said the scene resembled the Treta Yuga — the mythological era linked to LordRam’s return. The city welcomed devotees and tourists from across India and abroad for the event.
