Badlapur Incident: Sharad Pawar And Supriya Sule To Hold Silent Protest In Pune
The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, which includes Congress, Sena (UBT), and NCP (SP), has decided to cancel the “Maharashtra Bandh” scheduled for Saturday in response to the Badlapur incident, following a restraining order issued by the Bombay High Court on Friday. Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya stated, “We are prohibiting any political party or individual from calling for a bandh and will instruct the State to take necessary actions as per the BG Deshmukh judgment.”
Instead, the MVA will organize a silent protest. Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar), along with Baramati MP Supriya Sule, will participate in a one-hour protest in front of the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Statue at Pune Railway Station on August 24.
In a tweet, Pawar urged MVA leaders to honor the court’s ruling and cancel the bandh, citing the limited time available to appeal to the Supreme Court.
NCP city unit president Prashant Jagtap released a statement announcing the cancellation of the bandh.
“The silent march from Lal Mahal to the district collectorate is now off. Instead, we will hold a one-hour silent protest at Pune Railway Station,” said Arvind Shinde, the Congress city unit president.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray has urged party members to observe an hour of silence at major intersections in their cities and villages.
The MVA leaders emphasized that they will persist in their demands for measures to ensure the safety of women in the state.
