Bal Bharati Paud Phata road : Citizens to walk Vetal Tekdi to spread awareness on saving Pune hillsĀ

A walk around Pune’s popular Vetal Tekdi on Senapati Bapat Road has been organised on April 15 at 5 pm. The walk will start from Vetal Baba Chowk on Senapati Bapat Road with an aim to protest against three mindless projects planned by Pune Municipal Corporation that threaten the existence of Vetal Tekdi.

The proposed projects include two tunnels with exits at Sutardara, Panchawati and Gokhale nagar, a Balbharati to Paud Phata partially elevated road, and an elevated HCMTR highway. The loss of Vetal Tekdi would result in the loss of our cultural and natural heritage, the loss of a democratic urban space that is a free of cost recreational place for all strata of society, and the loss of an important ecological buffer that plays a critical role in reducing the urban heat island effect, and air pollution.

Citizens are coming together to show their support for the protection of the hills of Pune. All are welcome to join the walk and show their support for the cause.

The message is clear: if you love your city, it’s time to come out and protect its natural heritage. Don’t miss this opportunity to make a difference and be part of the change.
