Balak Palak foundation launches ‘Vaachan Saakhali’ initiative to encourage reading in kids

Pune: In a unique move to make children understand the importance of reading, Pune based Balak Palak Foundation has launched a book reading initiative called ‘Vaachan Saakhali’ for kids all over Maharashtra.
Speaking to Pune Pulse, Vinayak Joshi, President, Balak Palak Foundation said, “We had thought about this initiative way back in 2020, during the lockdown. Kids were attending classes through electronic devices. As a result, there was a decrease in the number of children reading books.
We finally thought of starting this initiative in 2022. Currently, preference is given to village kids as they lack much exposure to the outside world than the urban kids.”
Speaking about the registration process, Joshi said, “ The child who wishes to register has to write the details like name, village, address, taluka, district, school name, teachers’ name, their number, class in which he/she studies etc on a piece of paper. They have to stick their photograph and send it to the foundation by clicking a picture of the paper. After receiving the details, the foundation will confirm if the details are written by hand. They will then find out the location. As a next step, the foundation will decide on the book to be given to the child as per the area where the child stays. After that, based on the received details, the foundation will send the book to the child wrapped in a beautiful packet via post. The entire process takes around 3 days. In the meantime, the tracking ID is also sent to the kids for tracking the book. After the book reaches the child, a photo of that book with the cover has to be sent back to us for confirmation.”
As per information, the initiative has already started from June 1, 2023 and will continue till March 31, 2024. So far, around 209 kids from various districts across the state have benefitted from the initiative. Hence, all kids across Maharashtra are encouraged by Balak Palak Foundation to participate in this unique initiative to develop the habit of reading.
