In 2019, a 40,000 square foot hospital was constructed in Baner to serve underprivileged citizens, an effort led by Amol Balwadkar during his tenure as Chairperson of the Urban Improvement Committee. The hospital was expected to provide significant relief to the local community. However, due to administrative negligence, it has yet to begin operations.

Local residents are forced to seek medical treatment at distant hospitals. In emergencies, private hospitals charge exorbitant fees ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh per day, an unbearable expense for daily wage earners. The hospital was built to address these challenges, but despite the approval of the necessary resolutions, it remains overlooked by the authorities.

When Pune Pulse contacted Amol Balwadkar, he expressed his continued commitment to ensuring that the Baner hospital becomes operational. He highlighted the importance of the facility for the local community and stated that he is prepared to take all necessary actions, including protests, to make sure the hospital opens soon. Balwadkar also shared a recent incident where he personally arranged an ambulance and covered the expenses for a young girl in need of urgent medical care, underlining the dire need for the hospital to start functioning.
