Bangladesh Protests: 400 people, including 6 infants brought to India from Dhaka
This development came as the neighbouring country has plunged into uncertainty after street protests over quota system in government forced Sheikh Hasina to quit as prime minister and flee.
As many as 400 people, including six infants, were brought to New Delhi, India from Dhaka, Bangladesh on a special IndiGo and Air India flight on Wednesday morning, August 7 amid the volatile situation.
Officials stated that Air India operated the flight, which took off from the national capital without any passengers, at a very short notice despite infrastructure challenges at the airport there.
The chartered flight, which took off for the Bangladesh capital late Tuesday, was operated with an A321 neo aircraft. The flight brought back 205 people — 199 adults and six infants — from Dhaka.
On the other hand, IndiGo also operated a special flight, 6E 8503, from Dhaka to Kolkata on Tuesday, August 6, repatriating over 200 Indian nationals.
This development came as the neighbouring country has plunged into uncertainty after street protests over quota system in government forced Sheikh Hasina to quit as prime minister and flee. So far, the ongoing protests have taken away the lives of nearly 300 people.
The military has imposed an indefinite curfew, and authorities have cut off internet access in efforts to control the unrest.
Moreover, today onwards, Air India will be commencing its scheduled operations of two daily flights from the national capital to Dhaka.
Additionally, Vistara and IndiGo will also be operating their services to the Bangladesh capital as per schedule. Vistara operates daily flights from Mumbai and three weekly services from Delhi to Dhaka.
Normally, IndiGo operates one daily flight from Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai to Dhaka and two daily services from Kolkata.
A day earlier, on Tuesday, August 6, Air India had cancelled its morning flight but operated the evening flight to Dhaka. Meanwhile, Vistara and IndiGo had cancelled all their flights to the Bangladesh capital.
