Bavdhan Citizens Drive Collects One Tonne of Old Clothes for Recycling
Pune, October 22, 2024 – In a successful citizen-driven initiative, the Bavdhan Citizens Forum (BCF) organized a collection drive that gathered over one tonne (1,000 kilograms) of old clothes from residents in the Bavdhan area. The event, held on Sunday, saw the enthusiastic participation of more than 25 residential societies, highlighting the community’s dedication to environmental sustainability and responsible waste management.
The collected clothes will be handed over to the Eco Regain organization, which specializes in recycling textiles and minimizing waste. This effort will prevent the clothes from ending up in landfills or on the streets, instead giving them a second life through repurposing.
Starting at 1 p.m., a team of volunteers collected cleaned clothes from each participating society using a designated vehicle. The drive came at a time when many households face the challenge of what to do with old clothes, especially during the festive season. By providing an easy and environmentally conscious solution, the initiative not only promoted recycling but also fostered a culture of reusing items within the community.
Residents responded positively to the drive, showcasing their eagerness to contribute to environmental conservation. BCF has been consistently involved in eco-friendly projects, including monthly collections of plastic, e-waste, and thermocol. This recent clothing drive further strengthens their commitment to sustainable practices and reducing waste in the community.
Special recognition was given to the participating societies and the volunteers who coordinated the logistics of the event. Their dedication played a pivotal role in the success of the initiative.
With Diwali approaching, this initiative promotes mindful consumerism and responsible disposal of textiles, setting an example for other communities. The Bavdhan Citizens Forum continues to lead efforts towards building a sustainable future for all.
The residents of the participating societies expressed their gratitude to the BCF team, especially Deepa Prabhu and Sanket Joshi, acknowledging the initiative as a meaningful way to contribute to environmental conservation while addressing a common need within the community.
