Pune : The Bavdhan Citizens Forum (BCF) has undertaken a proactive initiative to address the issue of indiscriminate parking on footpaths, dedicated to pedestrian use. No Parking signs have been strategically placed between Lane no 8 and Lane no 10 on the NDA-Pashan main road as part of this community-led effort.

Kedar Bapat, a Bavdhan resident and BCF member, expressed concerns about the haphazard parking of vehicles outside a sweets shop in Lane no 8. The initiative aims to tackle such issues and create awareness about the proper use of footpaths. No Parking signs were specifically installed near a pan shop adjacent to a hotel, where frequent unauthorized parking was observed.

Ekta Mehta, another resident and BCF member, emphasized the importance of keeping footpaths free for pedestrians. Despite the availability of designated parking spaces, individuals continue to park on footpaths, causing inconvenience to the public. No Parking signs, painted using stencils, were introduced to deter such practices and encourage the use of designated parking areas.

Dushyant Bhatia, echoing the sentiment, stated that footpaths are meant for pedestrians, not for parking two-wheelers. Previous awareness campaigns had been conducted, but with little impact. Hence, the decision to physically mark the footpaths with No Parking signs using stencils and yellow paint was taken to send a stronger message.

Deepa Prabhu, the founder of BCF, explained that while No Parking boards are usually installed on main roads, they are often damaged or dismantled to accommodate parking. The BCF plans to extend the initiative across the entire Bavdhan area. Approximately 15 to 20 BCF volunteers actively participated in the recent activity.

The BCF’s commitment to addressing the issue of improper parking through practical measures and community engagement serves as a commendable example. The No Parking signs aim not only to regulate parking but also to create a safer and more organized urban environment for the benefit of the entire community.
