PUNE: In a potential move set to take effect from August 30, the central government has decided to reduce gas cylinder prices, with sources indicating a potential cut of up to Rs 200 per cylinder.

Earlier this month, the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) introduced modifications to the price structure of commercial LPG, while keeping the rates for domestic cooking gas unchanged. The adjustment included a substantial reduction of Rs 99.75 for commercial 19 kg LPG gas cylinders, which was implemented on August 1. Presently, the retail selling price (RSP) for commercial LPG cylinders in Delhi stands at Rs 1,680.

Furthermore, the price for a 14.2 kg LPG cooking gas cylinder intended for domestic use has remained unchanged since March 1 of this year. In July, oil companies increased LPG prices by Rs 50, following two hikes in May. Presently, non-subsidized domestic LPG cylinder prices are at Rs 1,103, Rs 1,129, Rs 1,102.50, and Rs 1,118.50 in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai, respectively. Monthly revisions for both commercial and domestic LPG cylinder prices are implemented on the first day of each month.

State-operated OMCs generally adjust LPG prices on the first of every month, and variations exist among states due to local taxes and regulations.
