Bird Flu Outbreak in Maharashtra’s Chirner Village: 1,000 Birds Culled, Restrictions Imposed on Bird Sales
A health emergency has been announced in Chirner village, located in Uran, due to a bird flu outbreak at a backyard poultry farm. Officials reported that approximately 1,000 birds have been culled. On January 14, samples from dead country hen and cock on a villager’s farm were sent to a government lab in Pune for testing.

These samples were later tested at a laboratory in Bhopal, which confirmed the presence of bird flu on January 18. In response, ten rapid response teams and a human health team have been sent to implement prevention measures, conduct sanitization and disinfection, and carry out surveys. Dr. Rajendra Itkare, the taluka health officer for Uran, stated that a team of doctors is stationed in the village to ensure preventive actions are taken. The village is situated near the Karnala Bird Sanctuary.
Additionally, restrictions have been imposed on the sale and purchase of birds and eggs and their transportation or exhibition in and around the village till February 9
