Blood Donor Van at your doorstep now

For the past two years, blood banks and critically ill patients are in a desperate need of blood and arranging even a single bag in critical condition has become a tough task due to lack of donors coming forward to donate blood.
To bridge the gap between the donors and patients, Pimpri Serological Institute Blood Center has taken up an unique initiative wherein the blood bank brings a vehicle where the donors interested in donating blood can walk-in any time in the van and donate.
Mangesh Surwase, public relations officer, Pimpri Serological Institute Blood Center while speaking to Pune Pulse said, “This initiative was launched on July 1, 2021 to bridge the cap between donors and patients. In the last two years, organising blood donation camps has become difficult as people are not coming forward to donate blood. Hence, we decided to take such vans at the donor’s doorstep. We have received amazing response and have been invited at several weddings, birthday / anniversary celebrations or social initiatives where there are donors willing to donate blood.”
Surwase said that the initiative is free of cost. The van has all equipments to check for the health status of the donor. Housing societies, corporate companies can come forward and help us in promoting the blood donation. The shortage of blood is due to the Covid19 vaccination. Lot of healthy people cannot donate as they have to follow the protocol of 15 days only after which they can donate. But there are many who are vaccinated and should come forward and help us all save patients who need blood.
