After receiving an email on Friday alleging that bombs had been planted inside the famous Indian Museum in Kolkata, police began a search operation at the more than 200-year-old archive, according to officials.

According to the officials, the museum is being searched and sanitized by members of the Kolkata Police bomb squad.

According to a news agency, the Kolkata police received a mail regarding a bomb threat from a group called Terrorizer’s 111.

According to the officials, public access inside the museum has also been suspended for the time being.

A senior police official said that several bombs were planted inside the Indian Museum, and the threat mail claimed that they would explode at any time. A comprehensive search of the museum structure is in progress.

In addition to the bomb squad, a large number of police officers, sniffer dogs, and a quick response team (QRT) have been stationed inside and outside the central Kolkata building.

According to the official, the police cyber section has also begun an investigation to find the email’s original source.

The Indian Museum, which was established in 1814, is the biggest and oldest multipurpose museum in the Asia-Pacific area as well as on the Indian subcontinent.
