The first day of the fair is usually expected to be exciting, but this one was exceptionally lively, showcasing the growing interest in books! The New Delhi World Book Fair 2025 kicked off on Saturday, February 1, attracting a huge crowd that extended all the way to the metro station on the first day. Although the gates opened nearly two hours later than planned, causing a bit of a crowd, it didn’t put a damper on the enthusiasm of book lovers.

Despite the long wait, attendees were excited to enter and explore the literary festival. They were eager to browse and purchase books at fantastic discounts! This excitement was palpable, as the four halls quickly filled with visitors who expressed their joy with delighted cheers.

“We arrived around 10:45 am to be the first in line. It’s a tradition for us to come on the first day of the book fair and shop to our heart’s content. To our disappointment, even though we were so close to the gate and got there early, we had to wait in line for two hours! However, once we got inside, we couldn’t wait to see all the books we could find,” shared a visitor.

The theme of this year’s fair, “We the People of India,” has attracted several young attendees. Another avid book reader shared, “For our family, attending the book fair is an annual tradition. We dress up early in the morning and set out to indulge in our one true love — books! This year’s theme is particularly exciting for me, especially since I enjoy regional literature, mostly in translation. I’m looking forward to discovering titles that aren’t readily available in mainstream bookstores.”

Some visitors also attended for professional reasons. “I made it a priority to visit the fair on the very first day to carefully select books for our school library,” said a teacher based in Delhi. She added, “I didn’t want to miss any titles that could benefit our students, even if it meant waiting for hours outside to get in on the first day.”

Visitors at the fair were excited to explore a wide range of books focused on the Maha Kumbh. A stall owner mentioned that there’s a noticeable rise in interest for books about religious events, particularly from parents who want engaging and interactive methods to teach their kids about Indian traditions. Additionally, many publishers are offering great discounts on selected titles, ranging from 10% to 65%.
