Booking railway tickets can often lead to mistakes, especially when you’re in a rush. If you find yourself with a ticket for the wrong date, there’s no need to panic. You don’t have to cancel it; you can easily change the date or even transfer it to someone else. Let’s explore how to do this.

The Indian Railways offers various services that are quite helpful for travelers. If you’ve booked a ticket for the wrong date, you can modify that date. Additionally, you can transfer your ticket to a family member, although there are specific rules to follow. If you’re traveling as part of a group, you can also adjust the group ticket, but keep in mind that there are conditions, and it may not always be feasible.

Which tickets can be modified?

For Offline Booking: If you purchased your ticket from a railway ticket counter, you can change the date or name on it.

For Online Booking: If you booked your ticket through the IRCTC website or app, changes cannot be made.

To change the date or name on your ticket, just follow these straightforward steps:

To modify your ticket, visit the nearest railway station. If you need to change the name, go there at least 24 hours before your train’s departure. For a date change, make sure to arrive 48 hours in advance. Bring your original ticket along with a written application. You’ll also need to pay a small fee for the changes. Just check that there are available seats for the new date when you make the name change. If your ticket has the wrong date or name, there’s no need to worry. Following these simple steps will allow you to adjust your ticket and continue with your travel plans without any hassle.
