Pune : On October 21, 2023, a team of Pimpri Chinchwad police led by Assistant Police Inspector H.V. Mane, apprehended a bookie in Pimpri who was placing bet on the World Cup 2023 England vs South Africa cricket match.

The bookie identified as Dinesh Harish Sharma, was discovered in possession of Rs 40 lakh, 02 mobile phones, and 01 calculator. 

He was involved in high-stakes cricket gambling through the “Cricket Live Line Guru” social media application, offering 60 paise per rupee if England emerged victorious and 61 paise per rupee if South Africa won.

An FIR has been filed against Dinesh Harish Sharma and his associates Dhanu and Shivan under Sections 4, 5, and 12(a) of the Maharashtra Gambling Act, as well as Section 21 of the Indian Telegraph Act.

The investigation is being carried out by Assistant Police Inspector HV Mane of the Pimpri Chinchwad police. 

The operation was carried out by Vinay Kumar Chaubey, Commissioner of Police, Sanjay Shinde Sao, Joint Commissioner of Police, Vasant Pardeshi, Additional Commissioner of Police, Swapna Gore, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), and Satish Mane, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime), all working under the guidance of Assistant Police Inspector HV Mane. Furthermore, Police Commissioners Hazrat Pathan, Ganesh Medge, Nitin Gengje, Sham Baba, Ramdas Mohite, and Tauseef Shaikh also participated in the operation.
