PUNE: Cyclone ‘Tej’ in the Arabian Sea has intensified into an extremely severe cyclonic storm, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The storm is expected to continue moving northwestwards between Al Ghaidah (Yemen) and Salalah (Oman) on October 24. The IMD predicts that the cyclonic storm will cross the Yemen-Oman coasts as a very severe cyclonic storm with wind speeds ranging from 115-125 kmph, gusting up to 140 kmph.

At 8:30 am on Sunday, the cyclonic storm was located approximately 160 km east-southeast of Socotra (Yemen), 540 km south-southeast of Salalah (Oman), and 550 km southeast of Al Ghaidah (Yemen). In addition, the IMD has reported that a depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a deep depression by early Monday morning.

This depression is expected to recurve and move north-northeastwards over the next three days towards Bangladesh and the adjoining West Bengal coasts, as stated by the Met office.
