Bringing back the natural habitat of birds in Kavadipat is essential; says Puneet Sharma

Members of Swachh Pune Swachh Bharat, a Pune based volunteer organization has been cleaning the Kavadipat area for the last four years. The efforts to clean the area and bringing back the natural habitat of the area for the migratory birds is a challenge which these volunteers are ably carrying out.

The members are led by Wg Cdr Puneet Sharma (Veteran) who has been holding such clean up drives across the city and making people realise the importance of maintaining the ecological balance to save the species on the verge of extinction come back to their natural habitat.

He says, “This is the fourth year of our cleanliness drive at Kavadipat. We need more people who can come forward and help us all clean it. There are over 22 variety of birds who visit this beautiful place. Slowly the number has gone down because the area filled with Plastic, glass and other waste materials. It is our responsibility to provide them their natural way of living and not pollute our water bodies. More youths should come forward.and join this movement of keeping our area, water bodies clean.”

The members collected plastic bags, glass bottles, and other waste from the bridge near Kavadipat. The group urges more volunteers to participate in this initiative of keeping our city garbage free. The drive was supported by Adar Poonawala Clean City Initiative, volunteers of Swachh Pune Swachh Bharat, village panchayat of Kavadipat and others. WePhilants and WORK were other NGOs which participated. The event was sponsored by LyondellBasell.
