Caught On Camera: Pimpri Chinchwad Police, Hinjawadi Residents Engage In Heated Exchange
Pune, August 8, 2025: A video from the Hinjewadi-Maan area has surfaced showing police allegedly using force and intimidation during a road-widening drive, sparking outrage among local residents. The incident unfolded while authorities were clearing encroachments to widen internal roads on instructions from Pune’s Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar.
Residents have accused the police of using heavy-handed tactics without prior notice. In the viral video, a local citizen is seen questioning the sudden demolition of structures. In response, a senior officer from Hinjewadi Police Station, Balaji Pandhare, is allegedly seen abusing and threatening the individual with arrest. The officer also used foul language and physically assaulted the citizen, according to visuals.
Incident Occurred in Front of NCP MLA
What has shocked many is that the entire episode reportedly took place in front of sitting MLA Shankar Mandekar of the ruling NCP party, who chose to remain silent during the confrontation.
The road-widening project, aimed at easing IT Park traffic congestion, was initiated by PMRDA based on directives from the administration. However, growing opposition from villagers, particularly due to lack of prior notice, has forced the administration to reconsider its plans.
Locals Push Back, Plans Scaled Down
Responding to the backlash, MLA Shankar Mandekar stated that instead of widening the roads to 36 meters as originally planned, the administration has agreed to limit it to 24 meters as per local demands.
The incident has intensified tensions between residents of Hinjewadi-Maan and the PMRDA, raising concerns over forced actions and misuse of police authority.
