The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has reiterated the critical importance of student attendance for Class X and XII board exams, reminding all affiliated schools of the existing guidelines. The latest circular highlights that schools are not just centers for academic learning but are essential for fostering the overall development of students, including extracurricular activities, peer engagement, and character building.

According to CBSE, students must meet the mandatory attendance requirement of at least 75% to be eligible to appear for their Board examinations. The Board has emphasized that regular attendance plays a pivotal role in ensuring holistic student growth, promoting values such as teamwork, respect for diversity, and personal responsibility.

While there is a provision for a 25% attendance relaxation, it is only applicable in exceptional circumstances such as medical emergencies, participation in national or international sports events, or other serious issues. In such cases, students must submit proper documentation to qualify for this concession.

CBSE has instructed schools to thoroughly inform both students and parents about the attendance regulations and the consequences of failing to meet these standards. If a CBSE inspection reveals that students are absent without valid reasons, it may result in their disqualification from appearing in the Board exams. The Board also clarified that once schools submit attendance shortage cases to CBSE, no amendments can be made to the records. Attendance will be finalized as of January 1st of the academic year.

Additionally, CBSE has provided schools with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to handle attendance shortages, along with a specified Proforma for submitting cases for condonation.
